Hellas – Kenya strengthen their bilateral relations

Athens, 15th of January 2015. H.E. the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, undertook a four-day official visit to Hellas (8-11/1/2015), after he had accepted a formal invitation by his counterpart H.E. the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Dimitrios Kourkoulas.

 

 

He was accompanied by senior officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya as well as H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya in Rome, Mrs. Josephine Gaita.

 

The signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) in tourism and agriculture as well as economic and business agreements between Hellas & Kenya were in the top of the agenda during the meeting of H.E. the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, and H.E. the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Dimitris Kourkoulas.

Emphasis was given in the economic, business and diplomatic bilateral relations.

It is the first time that a senior governmental officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Trade of the Republic of Kenya visited the Hellenic Republic, a milestone for the bilateral relationships between Hellas and Kenya.

Memorandum of Understanding in tourism and agriculture

 

 

The signing of Memorandums of Understanding in tourism and agriculture is expected to be signed in the nearest future, as discussed in the meeting H.E. the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, had with H.E. the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Olga Kefalogianni, and the General Secretary of Tourism, Mr. Anastasios Liaskos.

Pireaus and Mombasa ports cooperation

H.E. the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, met with the Chairman & Managing

Director of the Piraeus Port Authority S.A., Mr. George Anomeritis. They discussed, according to the MoU to be signed, the issue of the cooperation of the Port of Piraeus with the Port of Mombasa in the fields of infrastructure, know-how and cargo.  

Double Taxation agreement

 

 

Double Taxation issue was in the agenda of the meeting with the General Secretary of Public Revenue in the Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Katerina Savvaidou, and it is expected to reach to an agreement.  

Region of Attica cooperation with Kenya Counties

 

 

The cooperation between the Region of Attica with respective Kenyan Counties was discussed during the meeting with the Governor of the Region of Attica, Mrs. Rena Dourou.  

Cooperation with Municipality of Marathona

 

 

The realization of actions and targeted events, regarding the Marathon Race, are expected to be agreed between Kenya and the Municipality of Marathon, after the meeting with the Mayor of Marathon, Mr. Ilias Psinakis. 

Meetings with business persons and business associations

 

H.E. the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, had meetings with top executives from major companies in Hellas, that have already launched their activities in Kenya and have expressed their interest to undertake big scale projects in the country.  

H.E. the P.S., Dr. Eng. Kibicho Karanja, also met the Chairman & CEO of Diana Containerships Inc., Mr. Simeon P. Palios, as well as the Chairman of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises, Mr. Theodore Fessas.

Targeted actions with National Technical University of Athens

The National Technical University of Athens has already signed a MoU with the University of Nairobi. Within this context, during the meeting H.E. the P.S. had with the Dean, Mr. Ioannis Gkolias, and the Deputy Dean, Mr. Dimitris Papantonis, of the National Technical University of Athens, both parts agreed to realize targeted actions in education.
